"This was an exciting contest to judge. There was consistent high quality to the offerings. Each collection of poems had a voice of its own. The dominant music of these poems, for me, is somewhat elegiac. The images weave their own backdrop as we hold our breaths, spiritually, at the start of the second decade of this millennium. All song traces its way back and arises from the river that runs within us. Call it our hunger, our yearning, it occurs within the voiced love and lament accompanying all ceremonies of letting go."
